Tamkeen for Sustainable Tourism Development

A non for profit company that has been established in 2020, in Jordan, in response to the grave and adverse impact by the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on global and Jordan’s tourism and the Jordanian hospitality sector at large.

TASUD believes that tourism is a force for a better life; when managed responsibly it can transform people’s livelihoods and build resilient communities while preserving and safeguarding the environment. TASUD – while locally oriented, operates within the United Nations Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs: 2030) and commits to the principles of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Global Code of Ethics for Tourism (GCET), and the UN Women Equality Principles (WEP) to guide TASUD’s objectives.

OUR SERVICES

TASUD will provide an exhaustive list of quality services and products to a wide spectrum of clients within the tourism sector and relevant sectors, to include: 

  • Capacity building and training programs.
  • Clubs for youth internships and employment.
  • Hub for science-based innovation and entrepreneurships.
  • Platform for green tourism initiatives and local cultural heritage.
  • Organize Jordanian Delegations participation in global events, exhibitions, and training.

AGENDA

TASUD prioritized the following the strategic objectives for the coming 3 years to address sustainability challenges in Jordan’s Tourism sector: 

Aims to conduct research and market intelligence studies to provide recommendations that supports sound decision making process at policy level for public and private sector entities to drive forward evidence based innovations in contribution to tourism sector’s competiveness, sustainability and resilience.

Help local communities reap the vast benefits entailed from tourism; economically, socially, and culturally in an equal and inclusive manner. This is to be achieved through providing initiatives and services designed to increase jobs opportunities, micro and medium size enterprises for women and youth including the disadvantaged in tourism destinations mainly rural areas in Jordan.

Strengthening tourism resilience depends on the sector’s ability to place future generations at the forefront of actions reflected in creating balanced responsible policies toward people, the planet and prosperity whereby the “Human Capital” is cross cutting factor.

In context, at TASUD the Human Capital Development objective aims to empower policy makers, CEOs, manager and workers in tourism enterprises with cutting edge knowledge on sustainability and new trends , innovation skills, digital technology, ethics and CSR criteria to enhance institutional performance, productivity and tourism sector competitiveness at large.

Further to this the aim is to prepare youth to become leaders for change in their societies through empowering them with entrepreneurship skills on tourism sustainable development in cooperation with universities, local and international tourism organizations.

Aims to develop initiatives to protect and preserve nature, environment, wild life, fauna and flora, in Jordan, with special attention to indigenous species, and contribute to the advancement of circular economy through resource efficiency in the tourism value chain; renewable energy, recycling, and reduction of the CO2 print.

This is supported by our strategic objective to conduct consultancies and services in rural areas by strengthening linkages with other sectors such as agriculture and industrial sector to improve employment and job creation, diversify the economy in tourism activities and at the same time safe gaud the environment, such as; eco-tourism, adventure tourism, agro-tourism, gastronomy, wellness, sports, arts, manufacturing etc.

SOURCES OF FUNDING

TASUD will generate its own funding from memberships and events. TASUD will apply for funds and grants to achieve its goals in line with its mandate.

Stakeholders

TASUD ADVISORY COUNCIL

Tamkeen for Sustainable Tourism Development (TASUD) forms the Advisory Council (AC) to provide a platform for private sector organizations and NGOs from tourism and other related sectors to discuss, share experiences and collaborate to achieve a stained tourism development and green economy in Jordan.

The primary remit of the AC is to address the challenges facing sustainable development in Jordan and ensure achieving the vision, mission, goals and strategic objectives set by TASUD.

TASUD Advisory Council (AC) Presidency:

The presidency of the AC is an honorary one, will be headed by a renowned dignitary from the public or private sector in Jordan.

TASUD Advisory Council (AC) Membership:
